The Shame of America: New Orleans

My father sent me this e-mail from a friend of his. It is an account of a recent trip to New Orleans, and it really opened my eyes. I mean, I knew things were bad; in fact, I knew things were REALLY bad. But to hear the way it is put in this letter... Jeez.

This is not an old letter... it was written in March of 2007... 19 months after Hurricane Katrina.

As the writer suggests, please forward this letter around. Folks need to know the gravity of the situation in New Orleans and the Gulf. I'll save the rant for another day (though you KNOW it's coming!).

I have edited slightly to retain anonymity for the writer and his family.

Dear Friends,

As most of you know we were recently in New Orleans. A friend emailed me and asked what it was like. I wrote back and then realized that I wanted to share it with all my friends because you need to know what the situation is. I have included the full text of the letter below.

If you care about this, PLEASE send this on to your friends. The more people who know, the better the chance that something good may yet happen.

It is certainly possible that all of the facts and figures set forth below are not 100% right on. I have not made an independent effort to verify what we were told. It certainly seemed accurate to me.

Thanks for your time. It is appreciated.

R.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My wife’s sister died a few weeks ago in New Orleans and we had to go back for the funeral. It was 3 days after her 63rd birthday and, of course, she was the health nut. We had not wanted to go back after Katrina, but this time we had no choice.

What we saw and heard from family and friends was unbelievable. For all practical purposes, 19 months after the storm there has been NO progress.

Because of the funeral we saw and talked with literally hundreds of people. I have so many facts and figures it is mind-blowing.

I will preface this by saying that the tourist corridor is functioning fairly well. The French Quarter was essentially undamaged (except from looting and fires), and Uptown has been essentially restored. There are street signs and traffic lights where they should be. However, the rest of the City (and adjacent areas) are in serious trouble.

For instance, there are only 4 car dealerships left in N.O. There are more than that in San Luis Obispo.

They went from 7,000 restaurants to 2,000 restaurants.

89% of the home owners in Mississippi who applied for federal relief have received their checks. Less than 3% of the Louisiana homeowners have received their checks. Why the difference (you might say)? Miss. has Trent Lott as their senior Senator (and Republican Minority Leader and friend of Bush) and Haley Barbour is their Governor, who is the former Chairman of the Republican National Committee, both of whom are friends of Bush. By contrast, Louisiana has Kathleen Blanco as the governor and Ray Nagin as the mayor of N.O., both of whom are Democrats and both of whom are despised by Bush.

The soil is obviously contaminated, but NOBODY is doing a soil sample because they don’t want to know. So they are trying to rebuild on contaminated soil.

The rebuilding process is, at best, sad. Most of the homes that were flooded out are not being rebuilt. People have not yet gotten either their insurance money or their federal aid, so they can’t rebuild even if they wanted to. But for those that are trying to do it, they first remove the moldy carpet, then the drywall, then the insulation, then they spray the studs for mold, put in new insulation, new drywall and call it a day.

I believe that superficial effort will not kill the mold or prevent other cancer causing organisms from going in the studs, etc. But I am not a scientist and do not have the necessary technical knowledge to state that as a fact. However, I asked many people – including a realtor, 2 soon-to-be doctors and many other educated folks - if THEY would move into a house that had been mold-infested and “rebuilt” as I have described. Everyone said “no”.

In order to get flood insurance a house has to be 3 feet above sea level. But the level is different in different neighborhoods, and even sometimes on the same street. The only way to know if you are 3 feet above sea level is for the Corps of Engineers to make that determination. But that has not yet happened anywhere, because the understaffed Corps is working feverishly to rebuild the levees. There are two issues here:

1. The people who are rebuilding on their former slabs or at the former level are obviously not 3 feet above sea level. They will never qualify for flood insurance. Some are raising their houses, but nobody knows how high they have to go. So it is a desperate crap shoot: and

2. The Corps is rebuilding the levees to a Category 3 level because they don’t have enough money to rebuild to a Category 5 level. Katrina was a Category 5 hurricane.

There is no affordable housing so poor and low income people really have no place to llive. They cannot commute because the immediately adjacent parishes were effectively either wiped out or are not affordable. There is no mass transit of any kind. Most of the low income folks don’t have cars and, even if they did, they would have to travel so many miles from the City that they could not afford the gas.

There is no infrastructure to speak of. The streets have pot holes big enough to warrant folks putting garbage cans in them to warn drivers. There are no street signs on most streets (outside the Quarter and Uptown) and the City cannot replace them because they don’t have the money or the staff. The same goes for traffic signals, which are essentially not functioning except at the major intersections.

(LSU’s) University Hospital, which was a teaching hospital, is gone. Charity Hospital, which treated the poor and the uninsured – and was the premier Level 1 trauma center in the South – is also gone.

There is only one fully functioning hospital in the City, but it does not have a Level 1 trauma center (and New Orleans is now the #1 murder capital of the country – per capita. Interns are not coming to New Orleans and medical school graduates are leaving the area (for the first time ever). There is a critical shortage of every conceivable health care professional, including mental health folks – and the collective population is clinically depressed. The suicide rate is ridiculous.

We have a friend whose 39 year old daughter has MS. For the past few years she has been treated by a neurologist who was doing her some good and she was fully functioning. Her doctor lost his home, his medical building and his practice. Because of frustration and acute depression, he ultimately took a sleeping bag and climbed to the top of a high rise parking structure at Canal Place, zipped himself into the bag so he would not make a mess – and jumped off the building. She has not been able to replace him with another neurologist because there are not enough to go around.

FEMA is a national disgrace. As you probably know, they were not able to get their phones working properly – ever – and it was not possible to contact them by Internet. So everybody had to stand in line to fill out aid applications. The lines were very long and, if you did not get to the FEMA people by 4:00 p.m. , they closed the door at 4 and told everybody to come back tomorrow. (Wouldn’t you think that in an emergency of this magnitude they could function 24/7?) When you got back the next day – and stood in line all day again – hopefully you were lucky enough to get to the door before 4 and fill out the application.

It seems that most people were willing to wait about 6 weeks with no contact from FEMA – and then they tried to find out what was going on with their application. Well, you could not get through by phone or Internet, so back in line… When you finally made contact with a real person you were told that FEMA has no record of your application and that it was probably lost. So you had to start the process over again.

And, when they finally approved your application, then you were required to “register”. Guess what information they required on the “registration form”? You got it – the same info that they already had on the “application”. And guess what you had to do to register. You got it – stand in line again.

No wonder hundreds of thousands of people left. No wonder Michelle’s neurologist was so depressed he took his life. No wonder the murder rate is out of sight.

The schools – which were horrible before the storm - have almost no textbooks so 4-5 students in high school share a book during class as there are none to take home to study with.

The property tax base has collapsed (80% of the City was underwater for a long time), so the City has dramatically increased the property tax for those homes and businesses which survived. Every business that can leave has either left the City or is making plans to do so. As a result the sales tax base has completely collapsed.

Because of no affordable housing there is a critical labor shortage. McDonalds’s and Burger King are paying burger-flippers a $6,000 “signing bonus” for 1 year. The hotels are allocating 3-40% of their rooms to house staff (or else they would not have staff). The Hilton just paid a $10,000 signing bonus to a beverage manager together with a free room for a year. Help wanted signs are on every business.

Approximately 300,000 people have left the City, which is more than ½ the population. In answer to your question, they have a pretty good handle on the population now, and most agree it is about 250,000 (give or take). Imagine all those vacant housing units.

In adjacent St. Bernard Parish there were, as I recall, some 67, 000 homes and all 67,000 were underwater for a long time and are essentially uninhabitable. When we went there it was surreal. There are no cars, no people, no dogs or cats, often no birds, only abandoned homes and businesses. Sometimes, if we did not talk to each other and turned off the car engine, there were no sounds at all. I saw a gas station that showed a price of, as I recall, $1.49; I went to turn into the station and realized that it was abandoned. Imagine being in the center of your downtown and there was no sign of life and all the stores were abandoned. If you can imagine that, then you get it.

The vastness of the destruction is overwhelming. Between Katrina and Rita it hit an area of 90,000 sq. miles, larger than Great Britain. We did not get to Mississippi, but we were told that the Gulf Coast just does not exist. People would say things like “Remember Gulfport? Well, it’s gone. Just gone. The city does not exist.”

When my wife first called me to tell me her sister had died she said the funeral would not be for about 9 days. When I asked why the delay she told me that all of the funeral homes were damaged, some were destroyed, none were operating at capacity and the City simply could not process the dead as fast as they were dying. Who would have thought of that?

We have a cousin who is a Supervising Engineer for the Corps of Engineers. I asked him what it was like for him immediately after the levees broke. He said, “Pick a day.” I picked the second Tuesday, about 8 days after the flood. He reminded me that there was no power anywhere. They had been worrying about a cold storage warehouse which had 50,000,000 pounds of frozen chicken in it. (That is the correct number, 50,000,000 pounds.) Of course, when the power went out the chicken thawed and then spoiled. But they could not get to it because of the flood waters. When they finally got to it, on the second Tuesday, it was necessary to wear HazMat suits and use oxygen tanks to breath. They hauled it all out on 18 wheelers, took it to a rural area, dug a giant hole and buried it. (Want to guess what will happen to the soil and the water table where the chicken is buried?) Then they decontaminated the trucks, sent them back to the warehouse and started the process over again. (I could not imagine what size the warehouse was to hold that much chicken. He said it was “bigger than any store you have ever been in.”

We learned and saw so much that I could really go on and on with stories, facts, figures, and assorted sad stuff. But I think you get the idea.

The leadership at every single level of government failed the people before the storm, immediately after the storm – and even today. There is only one way to fix the myriad of problems and that is for the federal government to form a REGIONAL Redevelopment Agency, make the head a Cabinet-level position reporting directly to the President, and take all money and authority away from the inept and corrupt state and local politicians. But that is not going to happen with the current Administration, which is bogged down with other considerations. So the prognosis is not very good.

When we asked how we could help we got the same answer from everyone. “Send tourists” and “send volunteers to help”. There is no reason not to go to New Orleans as a tourist. It is still possible to have a good time in the French Quarter. I am working on the “volunteer” thing because I want to do SOMETHING personal and get my hands dirty. But I haven’t yet come to grips with the idea that if I help someone get back into a mold-infested house sitting on contaminated soil I have done them a service. So… more to come on that when I figure out how I want to help. Hopefully, that will be soon.

Love, R.

But even I have to ask, what really can be done given the reality of the violence in New Orleans?

What the pro-illegal folks don't want you to see...

This is a really disturbing piece from the LA Times about the proliferation of squalid slums in the Coachella Valley.

Read it here

This is the kind of thing that folks like cheap labor shill Tamar Jacoby don't want you to know; mainly that most of the illegals that come here live in conditions that aren't much better than what they left.

Here in San Francisco, things are relatively good - though overcrowding is intense. I have a friend who lives in section 8 housing across the hall from a Hispanic family. The door's always open, and I've never seen fewer than 10 people in the living room, and sometimes it's much more. How do you think a huge family getting paid slave wages can afford to live in San Francisco? By living in horrible conditions - generally several large families living in one apartment. And don't get me started on the day laborers... according to pro-illegal groups, 70-80% of them are homeless and live in vans.

SO DON'T GIVE ME YOUR BULL ABOUT "COMPASSION" FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS! Those trying to push an amnesty for cheap labor are nothing more than modern-day slave traders! Honestly, how can you possibly be a "progressive," look at this situation, and come to the conclusion that the solution is to import MORE poor people?!? It's fucking insane!

Abraham Lincoln - a Republican - fought to end slavery. So I suppose that it's only natural that the Democrats would be the ones to bring it back!

Illegal Immigrant Rally Draws 1/1000th of the Crowd of A Year Ago

It's the one year anniversary of the "Day the Illegals Demanded America Back," and in Los Angeles - the illegal alien capitol of the world - a SMALL rally commemorated the blessed event.

Peppered among the comments was the usual racist bullshit.

Jefferson Azevedo, a Brazilian immigrant, said he didn't consider any immigrant illegal."We all know this is Mexican land," he said. "They didn't cross the border. The border crossed them."

A counter-demonstration was held nearby by anti-immigrant groups. A police line separated the protesters from pro-illegal supporters. At least, that's the way the papers put it. Probably "protected them from certain assault" is closer to the truth. The pro-illegal supporters - demonstrating not only their deep love for the 1st Amendment, but also their respect for the country that has taken them in - reacted in the now predictable way...

One pro-immigration activist provoked jeers and threats from the group when he wiped the sidewalk with an American flag. A cordon of police kept the two groups apart.

Other tongues overtaking English as language spoken in majority of Santa Clara County homes

I found this little tidbit on Brenda Walker's awesome Limits to Growth website...

Other tongues overtaking English as language spoken in majority of Santa Clara County homes

How can it be a good thing for fewer people to be able to understand one another? That's not a community by any definition. Babel was a curse, not a celebration of diversity.

As it grows as a global technology hub, Silicon Valley has become one of the most polyglot places in the United States. Santa Clara County is on the brink of a linguistic milestone: Within the next few years, more people will speak a foreign language at home than the number who speak English, recently released census data shows. Given the statistical uncertainty, that threshold may already have been crossed.

Santa Clara County has the largest population of Hindi speakers among all counties in the United States, the second-largest population of Vietnamese speakers, the third-largest population of Persian/Farsi speakers, and the fifth biggest number of Chinese speakers, a Mercury News analysis of 2005 census data shows. In percentage terms, the county ranks first in Vietnamese speakers, second in Hindi, third in Chinese and fourth in Persian/Farsi.

Since 2000, Santa Clara County has passed Los Angeles and San Francisco to become the California county with the highest percentage of immigrants, with 36 percent of its population born outside of the United States. (Santa Clara and Los Angeles remain in a statistical tie.) Miami is the only metropolitan region in the United States with a higher percentage of immigrants than the San Jose area.

from the San Jose Mercury News

It's astounding to me that anyone in their right mind could read the above story and say "this is a good thing." Such folks are truly insane. Gives a little more credence to this comment by European writer Fjordman, in this assessment of anti-Muslim riots in Holland...

We demand that the ideology of Multiculturalism should immediately be removed from all government policies and school curricula, and that the state should adopt a policy of supporting the continuation of the cultural heritage and traditions of the indigenous populations. Multiculturalism has never been about tolerance. It is an anti-Western hate ideology championed as an instrument for unilaterally dismantling European culture. As such, it is an evil ideology bent on an entire culture's eradication, and we, the peoples of Europe, have not just a right, but a duty to resist it and an obligation to pass on our heritage to future generations.
We demand that all Muslim immigration in whatever form should be immediately and completely halted, and that our authorities take a long break from mass immigration in general until such a time when law and order has been reestablished in our major cities. We will not accept any accusations of "racism." Many European nations have for decades accepted more immigration into our countries in a shorter period of time than any other people has done peacefully in human history. We are sick and tired of feeling like strangers in our own lands, of being mugged, raped, stabbed, harassed and even killed by violent gangs of Muslim thugs, yet being accused of "racism and xenophobia" by our media and intimidated by our own authorities to accept even more such immigration.

Haight Street Fair to be Boozeless

The Haight Street Fair (or Faire if you're stoned) will be alcohol free this year. Or, at least, that's the idea.

Facing the absolutely unacceptable proposition of having beer gardens, the fair organizers decided to just make the fair "no booze allowed." Now it's anybody's guess how this is going to work. I mean, will bars be open? Will liquor stores not be allowed to sell alcohol, or will people just not be allowed to drink on the street.

“We have always prided ourselves in producing a street fair that celebrates the free spirit of the community,” (the fair's executive director Robert) Leon said. “Restricting free movement … and compromising the personal decisions of our attendees are contrary to the nature of this community celebration.”

Compromising the personal decisions of our attendees??? Can you say circuitous liberal horseshit? Apparently the problem is that the folks who frequent beer gardens are the types who are not going to complain about the "restriction of free movement and compromising their personal decisions." Need a translation? Here it is... a beer garden would be discriminatory to fucking bums, the dirtbag homeless, and to the myriad of street urchins who have essentially taken over the neighborhood.

At least June 10th will be one day out of the year that the Haight Ashbury won't be a homeless toilet!

...and Something For the Ladies...

Thought I'd put up this lovely piece by Brenda Walker. This is particularly for the ladies out there who think that America is evil and that women would be better off under a multi-culturalist banner...

Why Multiculturalism Is a Fraud... and a Disaster for Women's Rights by Brenda Walker

Here's an excerpt...

The false ideology of multiculturalism with its accusations of racism toward anyone who will not submit has intimidated Americans into believing it is desirable to welcome millions of immigrants from cultures which consider women inferior. Western culture, for all its faults, is a comparative oasis of equality for women, unlike the traditional cultures so esteemed by the multiculturalism proponents. It is alarming that some Americans are so naive or brainwashed that they seek to increase such retrograde diversity in our institutions and in the nation as a whole, evidently to prove their rejection of racism. However, the absurd preference for third-world cultures in our immigration policy amounts to importing sexism. Is that supposed to be some sort of improvement — trading racism for sexism? Don't we already have enough male privilege in this society without inviting the misogyny of the world?

A woman after my own heart!

The Illegal Alien Debate

Here is a 5-part debate on the illegal immigration crisis courtesy of the Los Angeles Times - hardly a paragon of objectivity when it comes to illegals - but, nonetheless, it's a good place to start. It features Mark Krikorian, Executive Director of the Center for Immigration Studies, and Tamar Jacoby, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute.

The Late, Great Immigration Debate - LA Times

Now, needless to say, I consider Jacoby's comments to be, for the most part, a load of self-serving horseshit. But it's a good debate, and a good place to begin if you're wondering what all the damn fuss is about.

As usual, the surrenderist illegal alien apologist Jacoby leaves out a lot of important information...

1) Contrary to many pro-illegal groups assertions, a good percentage of the illegals pouring over the border are not fruit pickers and humble busboys, but are, in fact, hardened criminals who murder and rape U.S. citizens every single day. The "Stop Chasing That Busboy" tagline is just another attempt to lie about this.

2) Jacoby repeats the pro-illegal mantra "I don't want to reward people who have broken the law. I don't want to encourage others to imitate them." Pure bullshit. That is EXACTLY what you are proposing and if you had any integrity at all you'd just come out and say it. Again, as usual, the A-word is avoided at all costs, showing these folks for the lying bastards that they are.

3) Jacoby hilariously makes the following statement... "the one thing we cannot do is go on pretending they don't live here—or that it's all right for them to spend the rest of their lives as they are, a permanent worker class living forever on the margins of our society." Just what does this stupid bitch think that President Bush and the business interests have in mind when they propose an erasure of the American borders? A return to indentured servitude, if not out and out slavery. For the life of me, I have no idea why leftists have thrown their hat in with interests in this country who want to essentially bring back slavery!

4) The usual complete bullshit "earned path to citizenship" - whereby illegals pay a piddling fine, pay taxes on probably unverifiable income, and promise to (someday learn a few words of) English. There's a reason why so many erase-the-border surrenderists are so in favor of a "earned path to citizenship" - because they know it is totally unworkable, totally unenforceable, and will ultimately give every single illegal, even criminals, an almost bump-free ride to full citizenship... in other words, AN AMNESTY!

Restaurants May Close For A Day To Protest High Cost Of Doing Biz In the City

Tourism is San Francisco's number 1 industry. The City has attained this reputation in part by being a world-renowned culinary center. But several recent developments are irking the restaurant biz to the point where they may stage a strike of sorts, by closing down for a day. Is this a big deal? Oh you betcha...

With a number of high-profile events and conventions on the horizon — two major national conventions in April that will overlap and bring more than 17,000 people, the ever-popular Gay Pride weekend and the upcoming televised All-Star baseball game — the association could likely garner national and international attention and cost The City millions.

Now, I work in the tourism industry and I travel quite a bit, and I am constantly astounded at how other cities have so much better tourist support than San Francisco. You would think, for such a prime tourist destination, that the City would make an extra effort to make sure tourists were comfortable or, at the very least, have easy access to the information that they need. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Getting tourist info about S.F. is like pulling teeth, and even small things like getting a one-week pass for MUNI can be a real pain in the ass - particularly compared to cities like New York or Philadelphia. I guess they figure people are coming here no matter what so they don't have to make any effort.

Official opinion of tourists and the tourism industry ranges from dismissive to openly hostile - a legacy of the Socialist attitudes of the city. In a city where anyone with a roof over their heads is considered "bourgois," tourism is routinely looked down upon, despite the fact that, in many ways, it is our life-blood.

And this from one of SF's Commies in Chief...

Supervisor Tom Ammiano, who, along with Mayor Gavin Newsom, has championed The City’s new universal health care ordinance, said he has tried to work with the restaurant industry and other businesses to address concerns and postpone implementation.

“I guess no good deed goes unpunished. They’re having a two-year-old tantrum, embarrassing themselves and San Francisco with their self-importance and sense of entitlement and privilege,” Ammiano said.

Now, the restaurant association has ruffled a lot of feathers in the City by being very involved in politics, but, considering the lengths the City is going to to make doing business difficult, one certainly can't be surprised that they're taking such a proactive stance.

Just Another Beautiful Fucking Day In The Neighborhood...

All these lovely stories from SFGate on Tuesday, March 20th...

(03-20) 19:47 PDT
-- San Francisco police are investigating a rush-hour shooting Tuesday near the busy South Van Ness Avenue and Mission Street intersection that prompted numerous 911 calls, left one man hospitalized with a critical gunshot wound and ended with the gunman surrendering as police arrived.

The shooting occurred at about 5:30 p.m. in front of 74 Otis Street [SFity notes that this would be the Power Exchange sex club... or so I've heard ; )]. Numerous callers to the 911 line reported hearing multiple shots fired in the area and seeing a man with a gun running toward South Van Ness Ave., said police Sgt. Kevin McNaughton.

As police drove up in front of 74 Otis, a man with a gun threw up his arms and surrendered, McNaughton said. The suspect's name was not released. Police found a victim, a male who had been shot in the back. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Police did not release the victim's name.

McNaughton said police are continuing to investigate what prompted the shooting.

"Right now we have witnesses coming forward right and left,'' he said.

Or maybe this will brighten your day...

(03-20) 15:52 PDT -- A parolee faces murder charges after he allegedly ran down and killed a pedestrian in the Mission District after the two got into an argument early today, police said.

The 2 a.m. incident began when the suspect, Hamilton Diaz, 25, was driving southbound on Valencia Street and attempted to make a left turn eastbound onto 16th Street, police spokesman Sgt. Neville Gittens said.

"The victim and his friend were crossing the street -- we don't know what took place exactly ... but words were exchanged, and the suspect stopped his car and got out," Gittens said. "More words were exchanged, then the suspect got back in his vehicle."

The suspect began driving toward the two pedestrians, Gittens said, at which point the victim began punching the car. The pedestrians took off walking northbound on Valencia Street, Gittens said, but the suspect drove his car up onto the sidewalk and hit the victim with the vehicle, throwing his body into the air.

The suspect drove away but tried to park nearby, Gittens said. Police cordoned off the area and eventually arrested Diaz.

He was arrested on suspicion of homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, failing to report an accident and violating parole.

Too conventional for 'ya? Let's end on this happy note...

San Francisco police are seeking to determine whether the slaying of a transgender victim found naked near the Interstate 280 freeway is somehow linked to reports of a nude woman seen walking on the same freeway two hours later, authorities said Monday.

Inspector Karen Lynch of the homicide detail said investigators were summoned at 5:40 a.m. Friday to Indiana and Cesar Chavez streets and found the unidentified victim of a homicide on the sidewalk.

Lynch said it appeared the victim had been in the process of becoming a woman.

"We don't have the identity on the person yet, except the medical examiner has determined that this is a homicide,'' she said Monday. "The victim was completely nude, and we are asking for the public's help in finding anyone who has seen anything suspicious or could help us.''

The victim was Latina, about 30 years old, with black, shoulder length curly hair, Lynch said. She had healed cuts that left scars on her arms.

Shortly after 8 a.m., authorities began to hear reports of a woman walking nude on the side of Interstate 280, near Highway 101. "It could have been somebody related to this person, but this person was seen walking on the freeway. It's suspicious because the woman was seen getting into a blue metallic car.''

The second woman is described as a light-skinned white woman, slender, about 5 foot 5, 25 to 30 years old, with long, reddish-blond hair. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the homicide unit at (415) 553-1145.

Tina D'Elia, hate violence survivor program director for Community United Against Violence, said she learned about the events from the police.

She said transgender victims of hate crimes and extremely violent killings, so-called overkill slayings, are frequently left partially clothed or completely nude.

"It's making a statement and humiliating a victim,'' she said. "I want to know if anyone in the community knows who she is, or had seen or spoken to her that day. It's very devastating to hear this.'

America Eats Itself - Part 265,742

Freedom. What does it mean, exactly? Where does one person's right to pursue "happiness" end and another person's rights to simply exist begin? One could easily make the case that it is more important to protect an innocent person's life than to allow a dangerous person to live life the way they want to, even though they are a proven danger to themselves and others.

You would, of course, be wrong. It is, apparently, far more important in this country to make sure that the rights of the criminally insane are never impinged by the "tyranny of the humble majority," those of us citizens who simply lack the guts to give in to our most base desires and twisted fantasies.

Case in point...

An ex-con and former mental patient who won a landmark state Supreme Court decision in 2004 that allowed hundreds of mental patients to stop taking forced medication appeared in an Alameda courtroom Friday on charges that he killed his roommate in September.

Kanuri Qawi, 46, was charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of his roommate, John Laird Milton Sr., 59, whose body was found Sept. 13 in their home on Moonlight Terrace at Dignity Commons, a housing facility for veterans at Alameda Point, the site of the former Alameda Naval Air Station.

If you wonder why there are so many batshit loonball nutcases roaming the streets of this city, remember that there are many folks who really, honestly believe that society has no right to force people to take medications that can help them be... well, maybe not 'upstanding members of society... but at least keep them from stabbing their roommates to death. No sir... that would be denying their freedom! And the lives of few innocent people are a small price to pay to make sure some monster isn't allowed to remain crazy.

Thank you, California Supreme Court, for making sure that our completely insane neighbors will never have to worry about us taking away their God given rights to terrorize us.

Are Racist, Anti-Semitic, Cop-Killer supporting, Alien Amnesty Communists the "Silent Majority?"

A.N.S.W.E.R. will once again be invading the streets on March 17th to protest the Iraq war and virtually everything else. While it is heartening to see people protesting again, it's a damn shame that so many follow this lunatic fringe group.

A.N.S.W.E.R. has unfortunately become the receptacle for some of the most despicable anti-White racists in America. Even here in far-left San Francisco, A.N.S.W.E.R. are considered to be dangerous radicals.

A.N.S.W.E.R. claims that it is on the forefront of the wave of American discontent about the Iraq war and the way things are going in general, but I think most Americans - and even most San Franciscans - would rather commit suicide than let these twisted Commie freaks anywhere near a position of power.

For a great exposé about A.N.S.W.E.R. and what they REALLY stand for, read this L.A. Weekly article.

SPORTS! on San Fransanity

NASCAR - If you've read my bio (you HAVE read my bio, right?), then you know I'm a NASCAR fan. I try to work my American travels around the races, and so far I've managed to hit a few tracks...

Infineon Raceway
Las Vegas Motor Speedway
Richmond International Raceway
New Hampshire International Speedway
Homestead/Miami International Speedway

...and this fall, I'll be hitting Martinsville and Atlanta.

So far, the season's gotten off to a good start, though the off week right after the 2nd race of the season doesn't really help the whole "momentum" thing. But this week should be a doozy, as NASCAR goes to the newly renovated Vegas Speedway. Definitely catch it if you like crashes!

BASKETBALL - Apart from the Tournament, who cares?

BASEBALL - I'm going to New York City in April and am actually going to the New York Double; I'm going to a game at Shea and a game at Yankee Stadium ON THE SAME DAY! Should be brutal, but fun. I'm a Giants fan, of course, but I hope to God that Bonds doesn't break the homerun record. Yup, I'm a Giants fan and I HATE Barry Bonds!

FOOTBALL - The 'Niners are still kvetching about a new stadium that may or may not be built in San Francisco. Or Santa Clara. To be funded partially with private money. Or not.

Peace and Love in San Francisco - Murder Capitol

For everyone living with their head up their ass for the last few years - and I know that's a lot of folks around here - SF has been riding a rising crime wave. Not just homicides, but assaults, burglaries, car thefts and larceny have all been steadily rising.

This SFExaminer article states that, at the current rate, the City may break a record for homicides this year. Let's hear it for the "city that knows how!"

The reasons are numerous... a rising gang problem, minority community members too scared to act as witnesses, cops who are constantly hamstrung by Socialist, crime-loving lawmakers, a District Attorney who brings new meaning to the word "useless," a completely ineffectual police chief, a drunk, coked-out absentee mayor, the freak-show that is the Board of Supervisors, and - most importantly - a liberal culture so impotent and twisted that it is incapable of doing anything but making it worse.

SF's brilliant plan to deal with MUNI fare evaders - make everyone a freeloader!

MUNI - San Francisco's pile of crap transportation system - has been having a few problems lately. Actually for the last... well... forever, really. As ridership has gone up, MUNI has acted predictably by slashing service, creating sardine can-like crushes virtually all day long on the few buses still running. For those from out of town, MUNI is pretty much the stereotype of an over-bloated, inefficient, taxpayer-gouging union.

MUNI's main problem (besides itself) is fare evaders. Its fare recovery rate is around 20%, which is among the worst in the United States. Fare evasion is rampant everywhere, but is particularly bad among the young.

And what will San Francisco's do to get young adults to be stand-up citizens (for once) and pay their fair (if already discounted) share? Predictably, the answer is... do nothing. In fact, let's just give the little scamps a break, creating a new discount "young adult" fare for 18-21 year olds. Honestly, they should just drop the fucking pretense and just call it the "gang member" discount!

Mayor Newsom has realized that going after fare evaders - a majority of whom are the homeless, teenagers, thugs, and illegal aliens - will not be possible because a). it will involve actually DOING some WORK, and b). it will get the town Communists all riled up, screaming that anyone who pays their fare is a racist who is making poor, defenseless illegal alien gang criminals uncomfortable.

And meanwhile, everyday, the good people of this town trudge off to work on the rolling insane asylums, paying their fare, getting on the bus to be pushed out of the way by some fare-evading, gang-banging piece of shit, and getting the very clear message that THEY are the real problem - daring to stand in the way of the Socialist Utopia that would no doubt come to pass if only they weren't such "haters" and let those poor underprivileged, misunderstood young adults (who are, after all, our future... Jesus Christ in Heaven help us) live wild and free and do anything they want to whomever they want.

It's only fare, Whitey!

P.S. Mayor Newsom - in a clear sign that he's still on the sauce - has proposed eliminating fares altogether, seeing as MUNI brings in virtually nothing anyway. The MTA has tried to make up its budget shortfalls in the usual Socialist manner - by boosting rates at parking garages and raising towing fees - essentially bilking everyone who is already paying for the deadbeats anyway.

Fuck Bank of America on March 10th! - Part 2

Here is the F.I.R.E. Coalition's press release...

CITIZEN-ACTIVIST COALITION ANNOUNCES “OPERATION BANKRUPT”

Group Targets Bank of America for Aiding Illegal Aliens and Terrorists

LOS ANGELES, March 6—The FIRE Coalition, citizen-activist groups fighting illegal immigration across the U.S., today announced that it will launch “Operation BANKRUPT” (www.OperationBANKRUPT.com) on Saturday, March 10, following a report in the February 13 Wall Street Journal that Bank of America has decided to offer more Hispanics credit cards by waiving the requirement to have a Social Security card and credit history. The bank’s pilot program is limited to 51 branches in Los Angeles County, but it plans to roll the program out nationally later this year.

On March 10, FIRE Coalition partners and their supporters will protest outside Bank of America branch offices and encourage customers to cancel their accounts on that day for aiding illegal aliens and terrorists.

“We plan to significantly impact the operations of various Bank of America branches that day,” said Jason Mrochek, co-founder of the FIRE Coalition. “Bank of America is aiding and abetting illegal aliens, which is a federal crime. We are not going to continue to look the other way when confronted by these anti-American policies that are hurting our citizens of all backgrounds, and destroying our country.”

Bank of America officials claim the program does not violate banking or anti-terrorism laws. However, FIRE Coalition members disagree, citing the U.S. Criminal Code section 274, which states that “it is a crime punishable by 10 years in jail for aiding and abetting someone in this country illegally for commercial gain,” and the Bank Secrecy act of 1972 that says, “Banks must know their customers and any illegal activity must be reported to the government.”

Colorado congressman Tom Tancredo, a presidential hopeful and founder of the House Immigration Reform Caucus, will speak at the coalition’s Rochester, New Hampshire event on March 10th.

Daniel Sheehy, author of Fighting Immigration Anarchy: American Patriots Battle to Save the Nation, will participate in the March 10 event at the Glendale, California branch located at 203 North Glendale Avenue.

“Bank of America’s decision to offer credit cards to illegal aliens without Social Security numbers and credit histories is another step toward the merger of the U.S., Mexico, and Canada into a North American Union, similar to the European Union,” said Sheehy. “One way to put a stop to this madness and treason is to go after these corporations that are aiding the massive illegal-alien invasion of our nation and erasing our citizenship.”

The FIRE Coalition is a nationwide coalition of individuals and groups dedicated to stopping the flood of illegal immigration and promoting policies that serve to benefit the American people and safeguard our jobs, communities, way of life, public resources, environmental resources, and national security.

The coalition believes that it is the duty of our government to vigorously enforce our immigration laws, including repatriation of foreign nationals illegally in the United States and removing incentives for individuals to illegally cross our borders. The FIRE Coalition supports the enforcement and strengthening of existing laws penalizing those who employ and harbor illegal immigrants, and seek to educate those who passively accept or “turn a blind eye” to this problem as to the many destructive consequences of illegal immigration. The coalition’s efforts extend beyond federal matters to include state and local concerns as well. They are most widely known for their employer enforcement database at WeHireAliens.com.

Fuck Bank of America on March 10th!

When was the last time you opened a bank account or applied for a credit card? They asked for your social security number, right? I mean, it's kind of a no-brainer that a bank would want to, like, know who the hell you were before they offered you credit, to make sure they have some way to come after you in case you default. You would think.

But now, the blood-suckers at your friendly B of A have announced that they are now giving credit cards to anyone who keeps a checking account open for 3 months WHETHER THEY HAVE A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER OR NOT. The reason for it is simple... to profiteer from illegal alien remittances.

But hold on you say, wouldn't that open the door to terrorists and illegal alien criminals to fund their nefarious activities?

The answer... of course it does, but B of A could fucking care less. Their side of it is essentially that it's the federal government's job to stop illegal aliens, and if they can't do it, and since they're here anyway, we might as well make some money off 'em. We're not in the business of deciding who's illegal and who's not.

Now, using this logic, you can justify virtually anything - including laundering money for organized crime - which, as everyone knows, banks have been doing forever.

Some folks are doing something about it. None of them are stupid enough to try to appeal to the bank's sense of what's right (haha - good luck with THAT!). I mean, there's a reason you don't hear the words "moral" and "bank" in the same sentence very often. But what they are doing is urging all B of A customers to close their accounts and cut up their credit cards on Saturday, March 10th.

I myself have a lovely Alaska Airlines B of A-issued Visa that will be tasting cold steel on Saturday!

If you want more information on how (or, if you're not convinced, why) you can participate, check out this website...

F.I.R.E. Coalition/Operation Bankrupt

I realize that a bunch of disgruntled Americans cutting up cards and raising a stink isn't gonna mean much to the cocksuckers at B of A - salivating over the prospect of billions of dollars of new business from illegal aliens, terrorists, mafiosos, and other criminals.

We anti-illegal immigration folks may seem like we're always picking on the illegals themselves, but the problem goes much deeper, especially encompassing the alleged "Americans" at B of A, Wells Fargo, Tyson, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, and other business making a killing by killing America.

I may be more conservative, but Ann Coulter is still a Cunt

Just because I have become more conservative does not mean that I have become stupid all of a sudden. I am referring to American Uber-Cunt Ann Coulter's latest imbecilic remarks about John Edwards.

Coulter is simply the Paris Hilton of conservatives - a useless, hagged-out attention whore who will say anything to get a rise out of people. Once can only hope she's a drug abuser.

Maybe cunt isn't the right word... seeing as I'm sure she's really a man...

On becoming an ex-liberal

For many of my fellow ex-liberals, the conversion began on September 11th, 2001. Mine started a bit later... May 1st, 2006 to be exact.

On that day, "A Day Without Immigrants," America got its first real taste of exactly how grateful the immigrant community is towards our "tolerance." We were witness to hordes of foreign criminals, waving colorful flags of all nations (except, of course, ours), and demanding - DEMANDING - that America belongs to them, that we OWE them more than we give to our very own citizens. Owe them everything we have. Owe them our country. Owe them our lives.

I watched this with unbridled anger, and deep in my psyche, something screamed "this is just not right."

And so began my conversion. The more I read about the immigrant's rights movement and the philosophies of multi-culturalism and political correctness, the angrier I became. The very thinly veiled anti-White racism was just too much to take. Looking deeper, I started to question virtually every belief I had, and this time, I listened to my heart. If it didn't feel right, I looked deeper. I came to the conclusion that liberalism was just another word for the extermination of White culture. I shed over 20 years of liberal indoctrination, and decided to think for myself.

I am a White man, and I make no apologies for it. I can understand that minority groups want to take pride in their ancestral cultures. But when White people dare to do it, they are immediately shouted down and (predictably) called racists.

Some of the more vile voices of the immigrant community believe not only that America has no European culture, but that it has no RIGHT to. That Whites are not a people, but in the scope of demographics, will always just be known as "other."

I am White, and I am a person, too. I cannot sit idly by while foreign scum seek to destroy my people, my culture, and my country.

Starting over

Hey all!

After a first stab at this blog, I am scrapping it and starting over.

The reason is simple. I was being too nice.

The whole reason I am calling this blog "San Fransanity: The Voice of Reason in a Town Gone Mad" is to tell the truth about this place. This town - which I have called home for most of my life - has gone completely and utterly insane. I say this as a liberal... or, to be more accurate, an ex-liberal. For years I have bought into the political correctness that has characterized this town, but no more. Living here for nearly 20 years has taught me that it is all a fucking lie. Political Correctness and Multi-Culturalism are straight-up bullshit.

I am white, male, and heterosexual, and I make absolutely no apologies for any of it. White people are considered second-class subhumans in San Francisco. Non-whites are consistently treated better and with more compassion than whites, who are shit upon at every turn by the self-hating white majority and the filthy minority scum who are only too happy to use any excuse to perpetrate crimes upon whites. Anti-White sentiment has been thoroughly institutionalized, infecting virtually every level of civic life - including (especially) the City Government.

If you believe that Whites are the root of all evil, and that non-Whites are totally justified in committing acts of violence against white people, then you must be a San Franciscan!

Ahhh... that felt better.

So listen up San Francisco! I am calling you on your shit! I am going to do my best to make sure that my City is not at the forefront of the movement to extinguish the White race.
